TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION
Electric Arc Furnace
New 60 ton Electric Arc Furnace is a combination design unit utilizing some used components from a Melt Shop facility located at Hellenic Halyvourgia, in Aspropyrgos, Greece along with new components. The design engineering for the furnace reconstruction and new components was conducted by BSE of Germany. With our new EAF furnace, we are able to produce 450 000 t of quality round steel blooms annually.
Ladle Furnace Area
The ladle furnace is basically a small electric arc furnace where the furnace vessel has been replaced with the ladle full of steel. A ladle furnace provides a number of benefits for the modern steel making facility.
The benefits are:
1. The ladle furnace allows the steel temperature to be raised slowly and controlled.
2.The ladle furnace creates an area for bringing the chemistry of the heat to a perfect condition by alloy additions.
3. It allows for smooth stirring of the heat in the ladle, thereby eliminating stratification of steel components and temperature.
4. It creates a holding area, whereby the heat of steel can be maintained and be made ready exactly for when the continuous caster is prepared to accept the ladle of steel.
5. Allows for the sequence casting of steel on the caster.
Continuous Casting Machine Area
The final process area of the Melt Shop facility is the continuous casting machine. The continuous caster accepts the ladle of steel and transforms the molten steel into cast steel blooms. These blooms are round shapes ranging from 210mm diameter up to 410mm diameter. They are rolled into pipe at the heavy and medium section pipe.
